I noticed an article yesterday that had the fixed star Betelgeuse ready to blow… It is a red giant, and scientists have known for some time that it is nearing the end of its life. (It’s about 8 1/2 million years old). Scientists are convinced it will explode in the near future, and because we can see it very clearly in the sky, (it is part of the constellation Orion, which is one of the most popular constellations there is), we might actually be able to SEE a red giant go supernova. They say it would be brighter than a full Moon that would last for a few months… IF we get to see it. That’s because Betelgeuse can only be found int he heavens between December and May here in the northern hemisphere. It is also 642 light years away, which means what we see in the sky tonight is Betelgeuse as it was in the year 1378. It may have already gone supernova and we just haven’t seen the evidence yet.
Space has a way of making time and what it really is obvious, doesn’t it? Space is the next dimension of time. Time becomes space when you broaden your view. There’s a reason why I bring this up… And it seems to me it’s important because of the moment we are moving through in the human story on this planet….
